Matt Anderson

n9901169_30953781_4377Simply put, Matt Anderson is fast. Arguably (though probably a very short argument) the best middle-distance runner to come out of Manchester High School in the last 15 years, he is affectionately referred to as Ander-Man by friends.  If he is within 190 meters of you with 200 meters to go in any race, you’re in trouble.

Anderson’s list of accomplishments, contrary to other things in his life (like his hair) is long. Matt graduated from Manchester High School in 2004 and left there the school-record holder in the mile (4:20) and part of school-records in the Distance Medley Relay, 4 x 800 meter relay and slew of championships to his name.  Anderson was second in the state-open as a senior running the 800 in a blazing 1:52.  An All-State cross country runner, Anderson helped lead the Indians to consecutive runner-up finishes in the State Open and a fourth place finish at the New England Championships as a junior.  A Class LL Champion in the 4 x 800, and a multiple conference champion.  Perhaps his most memorable race was his junior year when he went from last to first over the final 300 meters to win the JI 800 Meter Championship.

From MHS, Ander-man went on to Trinity College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in women’s studies in 2008.  An equally accomplished college runner, Anderson was a varsity member of two Bantam NCAA Division III National Qualifying teams and competed in the National Championships twice in XC.  Anderson also qualified for the NCAA Track & Field Championships while at Trinity and was an All-American in Distance Medley Relay.   While in college, Anderson ran personal bests of 1:52.64 in the 800, 3:54.82 in the 1,500 and 4:15 in the mile.

Currently, Anderson is an avid supporter of running though he does not train nearly as much as he used to.  Despite the lack of training, he can on any day step to the line and frustrate all of his friends by being faster than them.  A native of Manchester, Matt lives with his wife Bekki in Bolton and he works for the Hartford Marathon Foundation.
