Brian Nelson is fast and not nearly as intimidating as he looks in this picture; beards will do that to a man. Brian officially joined the MRC pack in 2013 and has steadily improved all year. A very talented athlete, he has a personal streak of 13 consecutive Boston Marathon finishes, has ridden his bike across the country, scaled many a mountain, and wrestled a moose with his bare hands. Okay the last part isn’t true but everything else is.
Brian has set personal records in 2013 in the 5k – running a very impressive 14:56 at the Run Westfield 5k in March and on April 28th he was second overall at the Cheshire Half Marathon in a personal best 1:11:17. Nelson has a handful of top finishes in 2013 already, he took first at the USATF-CT 5 Mile championships in January (26:11), was 6th at the USATF-CT 5k championship (15:30), and was runner-up at the inaugural Grape Chase 5k in West Springfield. Nelson was also second at the Oleksak Lumber Half Marathon on March 24 in Westfield, Mass. running a time of 1:11:48. Brian was the winner of the 2013 Bolton 5 Mile Road race as well.
Away from running, Brian is a true man’s man, building houses for a living while working on a fantastic beard. Brian is married to Laura and they reside in Vernon.
