MRC Runners Stellar at Hartford Marathon Events

In rainy and cold, but very run-able conditions, the Manchester Running Company club runners and friends were out in full force at the NU Hartford Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k. Friends of the club, or club runners, placed among the top 10 in each of the three events today.

The day’s first finishers were those in the 5k. Ashley Gurzler was the 7th overall female in a time of 19:54. Taking age group honors in the 0-9 division of the 5k was Sean Barkasy, who was victorious in the division with a time of 21:15 and 50th overall. Mark Barkasy finished the 5k in 20:45. Ned Kennedy of Bolton was clocked in 18:47 to take the win in his age group while his wife Dani came through in 22:21 to take second in the age group.

A number of MRC’s top runners took part in the half marathon, which saw four of MRC’s best come through in the top 35 slots. Jonas Hampton (friend of the club) took fourth place overall in an impressive 1:05:27, just off the pace for an Olympic Trials qualifier. MRC friend John Busque ran a personal best 1:10:02 to take 15th overall in his debut. Just two minutes, and three places behind, Brian Nelson ran a season best 1:12:04 to take 18th place. Behind Nelson, Chris McCormack had a fantastic day, completing the half course in 1:14:08 and 28th overall. Just off of McCormack’s pace was Garrett Ash who took 32nd place with a time of 1:15:59. Breaking the 90 minute mark, Kevin Cox completed the sloppy course in 1:27:26.

Other half marathoners for the club, in no particular order, include Caitlin Byrne (2:10:27), Kelly Tracey (2:21:03), Jennifer Fusfeld (2:19:31), Pam Sullivan (2:10:46), Carrie Bova (1:28:38), Christa Conway (2:48), Myles Kessler (1:56:16), Matt Travis (1:39:52), Amanda Travis (1:44:22), Lanham Marks-Hamilton (1:34:19), Laura Caruso (2:19:52), and Al McCall (2:12:40).

In the full marathon, MRC friend Scott Mindel finished ninth place overall with a time of 2:27:41. The New York native and current CT resident, was the sixth American at the Boston Marathon in 2013. Dan Uriano and Ryan Lerner ran through the tough conditions in just over 2:50 for 33rd place and 35th place, respectively. Dave Sullivan ran under the MRC umbrella to a 4:45 finish, just behind Lindsay Grimes who also ran 4:45 in her marathon debut.

Tom Soisson made his first attempt at 26.2 with a steady 4:15:30 showing and Dave Grady accomplished a sub 4 with 3:58:57. Lindsay Hunt completed the course in 5:29:58, Eric Johnson was 4:13:22 and Mark McCarty set a personal best with a time of 3:43.

All times listed are very unofficial and are chip time, so they may differ in the final results. Congratulations to all the MRC Club runners and friends of the club on great finishes today!
