Following a successful 2013 campaign, the Manchester Running Company club team will once again participate in the USA Track & Field (USATF) Connecticut Road Racing Grand Prix. The 2014 series starts on January 26th in Milford with the five mile championship.
The USATF – Connecticut Grand Prix is a series of eight races of varying distances; club teams compete for bragging rights and cash prizes in open, masters, grand masters, and senior divisions. Male and female teams are scored separately and prize money is awarded to both genders. Club teams from around the state compete annually in the series with MRC taking two wins and two third places in the men’s division in 2013; the MRC women won the only event in which they participated.
The 2014 series features events ranging from 1 mile to the half marathon including MRC’s very own Spring Street Mile on June 14th.
All events are open to the public, in order to score for a club, runners must be a registered USATF-CT runner affiliated with a Connecticut Club team. Men’s teams must have five runners to score while women’s teams require three runners.
MRC took first place in 2013 at the ShamRock N’Roll in New Haven and bookended the season with a victory at the New Haven Road Race. The men took third at both the Delaney Dash and Branford Road Race. The women’s team was victorious in the 2013 Amica Iron Horse 10k.
Manchester Running Company is always seeking additional members, if you are interested in joining the team you can register online for a one-time fee of just $25.
The MRC women’s team was led by Alicia Echevarria, Amira Lerario and Laura Nelson while the men had 11 different contributors including top performances from Brian Nelson, Garrett Ash, and Jake Gurzler. You can check out the entire MRC roster here.
