MILFORD, Conn. — Manchester Running Company is off to a fast start in the 2013 USATF-CT Grand Prix Series. MRC runners Brian Nelson and Jake Gurzler took first and second place, respectively, at the Winter Wonderland 5 Mile Road Race on January 27th in Milford.
In very cold temperatures, coming off a very cold week, Nelson and Gurzler strategically place themselves in the lead pack from the gun, teammate Garrett Ash was also in the mix in the early going while Chris McCormack stayed in the top ten and Patrick Byrne was holding down a solid fifth-man position in the heart of the pack.
Nelson and Gurzler broke away from the pack with just over a mile to go and held on for the 1-2 finish in 26:11 and 26:16 while Ash was just off the pace but took 7th place in 26:55. McCormack, in his first distance race in over a year, held on for ninth in 28:04 and Byrne rounded out the scoring for MRC with a 38th place finish in 32:03.
Overall, MRC unofficially finished first in the team scoring, some technicalities are delaying an official team place.
The team is looking forward to competing at the WPLR ShamRock & Roll on March 2nd in New Haven and all are welcome to come out and compete with us!
