June 11th Events Have Something for Everyone

Plan to join Manchester Running Company, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Hartford, Team Hoyt New England and a few hundred of your local running buddies on June 11th at Globe Hollow Reservoir in Manchester for the Spring Street Mile and Life Without Limits 5k Run, Walk & Roll. The morning has something for all ages and abilities, including two classic distances over beautiful courses. Young and old, wheel-chair athletes, fast, slow, we’ve got a race that everyone can enjoy at a great price, for a great cause.

The festivities kick off at 9:00 a.m. with the first of three heats of the Spring Street Mile. The Spring Street Mile is the fastest mile in Connecticut, and one of the fastest in the country…but you don’t need to be a superstar to challenge yourself to set a mile personal record, or just have fun. The race is a gentle downhill with no turns, just a straight shot from Tam Rd. to Globe Hollow Reservoir, 5280 feet o’ fun. The mile event features a women’s only race at 9:00 a.m., followed by men only at 9:10 a.m. and then we send the kids (co-ed) down at 9:20 a.m.

The mile races will be chip timed and much prize money is offered in the adult races. $300 for the winner, $150 for second, $75 for third, along with $50 for the first master’s runner (40+). New in 2016, we will have a $25 bonus for the first runner across the 1/2 mile mark and 3/4 mile mark. All kids get a medal – sorry, no cash for the youngsters. ┬áThe Spring Street Mile is a certified course and is the USATF-CT one-mile championship. (You do NOT need to be a USATF member to participate).

At 9:30 a.m. the sixth annual Life Without Limits 5k Run, Walk & Roll hits the pavement. This moderately challenging (a couple rolling hills) road race travels around the neighborhoods of Dartmouth Rd. and Spring Streets and goes through Mt. Nebo, the Charter Oak Greenway and the Martin School area. The 5k welcomes walkers, runners, and wheel-chair athletes and their partners. The wheel-chair athletes will be given a 5-minute head-start and all participants are chip-timed.

The race’s highlight is guest appearances from Team Hoyt New England and Rick and Dick Hoyt. Come be inspired by Team Hoyt, go for a run, or go for the win in this 5k. T-shirts are available for all pre-registered runners and prizes will be distributed to the top three runners in each age division. All proceeds benefit United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Hartford.

We’ll see you on June 11th!
