Fall Marathons Kind to MRC Club Runners

The 2015 fall marathon season is winding down and has been very kind to the growing Manchester Running Company Club team. From marathon debuts to club records, the last six weeks has seen 20 club runners take to the streets for 26.2 miles of fun. Chris McCormack will finish this list as he runs his second marathon on November 22nd in Philadelphia.

Hartford Marathon – October 10th

As Connecticut’s marquee marathon, MRC was represented with 12 runners including Kristina Miner and Hillary Lawrence making their marathon debuts. It was a beautiful day in Hartford, with bright sunshine and cool temperatures at the start. Miner led all MRC runners with a 3:04:41 clocking, she was slightly disappointed and hoped to break the three hour barrier, but we are proud nonetheless. Greg Tutolo completed his second Hartford in 3:08:38, Mike Riordan completed the race in 3:42, Tony Torsiello was the first master’s runner for MRC in 3:50.

Amira Lerario paced the 4:10 group, nearly to perfection with a 4:09:20 showing, Tulsi Patel was 4:16, Daisy Reyes clocked 4:26 and Hillary Lawrence ran the race along side Mark McCarty and completed her first full in 4:36:50. Mary Schubert completed the journey in 4:45 and Larry Spencer made it through in just over 4:46.

Chicago Marathon – October 11th

On a sunny day in Chicago, 40,000 people toed the line and three MRC runners were among them. The duo of Ryan Miller and Dan Uriano trained together incredibly well in preparation for the event on October 11th. With eyes on the MRC record, Miller and Uriano went through the half way mark in 1:17:50 and were feeling good. Miller knew he was going to have a great second half and continued to feel good en route to an MRC record by 16 seconds in 2:37:45. Uriano, still recovering from injury, valiantly held a solid pace to complete the race in 2:47:21.

Shizhong Yang also ran an incredibly consistent race and completed his second marathon major this year (Boston and Chicago) in 2:51:23.

Marine Corps Marathon – October 25th

The Marine Corps Marathon also featured three MRC runners in Patrick Byrne, David Fusfeld and Jennifer Fusfeld. Temperatures in the upper 50’s with light rain made for comfortable running conditions. Byrne went through the half in 1:27 before cruising through the finish in a hair over 3:08. Dave Fusfeld was trained under Byrne and hoping to break 3:15, he accomplished the goal with a 22 minute personal-best and clocked a 3:11:51 for his first Boston Marathon qualifying time. Jennifer Fusfeld was also amongst the 30,000 runners to start the race and completed her marathon debut in 5:32.

New York City Marathon – November 1st

The lone representative for MRC, Matt Conyers was elated to start in the first wave among the elite men, though not aiming to finish with that crowd. Participating for the experience of NYC, Conyers is a seasoned veteran of the distance and enjoyed his journey through the five boroughs while finishing the marathon in 3:22:32.

Manchester (N.H.) City Marathon – November 1st

Last in our fall summary but first in the results, Morgan Kennedy earned the highest finish ever for an MRC runner in a marathon! Kennedy took the lead at mile 16 of the Manchester City Marathon and never looked back. The win was clocked in 2:38:24. Morgan claimed before the race he was just going to finish the race, he certainly accomplished his goal and was a mere 40 seconds off the MRC record.
