Track & Field Series FAQ’s

Please note, the 2016 Series is limited, due to renovations at the MHS track. There will be one meet at Tolland Middle School on July 16th at 5:00 p.m.

Just a few commonly asked questions.

How do I register? If you would like to register online you can do so by clicking here (coming soon). If you would like to pay in person, it costs $5 more; and you can do so at the meet. We accept and prefer credit cards, but we also accept cash and checks made to Manchester Running Company.

Are your events hand-timed or do you use automatic-timing? TBD for 2016.

Do I need to bring my own equipment? We work with Tolland Middle School to provide you with some equipment. We have more than enough starting blocks and high-school weights for all throwing implements. If you would like to throw with a heavier implement you will need to bring that with you.

What time should I get there? The first event of the night is a distance event which starts at 5:00 p.m. We also start the jumps at 5:00 p.m. so if you plan on participating in any of these events you should arrive by 4:45 p.m. at the latest so you can register and check in. Throwing events start at about 5:05 or 5:10 and events run consecutively on the track – so as soon as one event is finished we move on to the next.

How many events can I participate in? You can participate in as many events as is feasible. Your registration covers as many events as you choose. Bear in mind, however, we keep the meet running efficiently. Please do not plan to participate in every event, it is just not realistic. You could realistically participate in about 5 events if you wanted to but when it is your turn to jump, throw, or run you need to be at the event or your turn will be missed. We make several calls for each event to be sure you don’t miss the start. You are responsible for listening and being aware of the order of events (which are posted in many places).

What if I miss my event? We make several calls for each event, so if you don’t hear your event being called there is not a whole lot we can do. For the sprints, if you miss the event and would like to run it, we’ll time it for you but you’ll be running alone. Do not expect us to run a separate race for you if you missed anything more than 400 meters. For throws and jumps you need to be present and aware of your turn.

How long do your meets last? Generally speaking we are done with the track events and throws in about 2.5 hours. The high jump can sometimes take a bit longer depending on the number of participants and how high the bar is.

Do you have the pole vault? No.

How about the steeplechase? The facility does not have the necessary equipment.

Who will I be competing against? Girls, boys, men and women all compete separately. The order for each track event is girls, boys, women and then men. Generally, we then divide again by age if there are enough participants. For example if there are 20 boys we’ll run a heat of 8 years and under and then a couple heats of 8-13 or so. We will usually run anyone high school age or older with the adults unless there is a request not to or if it presents a safety hazard. The throws and jumps follow a similar order of girls, boys, women and men.

What is considered youth? For registration/pricing purposes youth are all those under the age of 18. For participation purposes and results, anyone under the age of 14 (or high school) is considered youth.

What happens if it rains? If there is light rain we’ll keep competing! Lightning will delay the meet by 15 minutes after the last lightning strike. Any cancelled meets will be posted on our website and our Facebook page.

Do you provide water? We do provide water, we recommend bringing your own water and sports drink as well.

Does my son/daughter get a medal for finishing? Yes. One medal per athlete, we don’t give out 5 medals, just because your son/daughter did 5 events.

Where/When will I see results? Results will be posted within 24 hours on our website.
