Manchester Running Company had strong performances all around the state in half marathons last weekend as Mary Bugbee, Garrett Ash and James McKirdy each had top performances. Both the Greater Danbury Half and the Harvard Pilgrim Half took place on Sunday, April 6th.
While MRC did not have a full team present for the Stratton Faxon Greater Danbury Half Marathon, Mary Bugbee had a fantastic performance with a 1:43:12 showing that was good enough for 11th in the open women’s division. The Danbury Half Marthon features a number of hills and very strong competition but Bugbee was able to run a smart race and earn one of her top performances of the year.
In Middletown, James McKirdy and Garrett Ash started in front with a just a few other leaders and were unfortunately led the wrong way on the course. The distance remained the same but they were running in a much smaller group. McKirdy and eventual winner Will Sanders of Wethersfield went from the gun and were out in front by mile two. From there Sanders began to take a commanding lead while McKirdy was very strong in his own right. One of MRC’s top long-distance runners, McKirdy ran virtually alone for 11 miles and was able to muster a very strong finish of 1:15:08 for second place overall.
Garrett Ash was stuck in the same boat as McKirdy and Ash was running solo for the better part of the race. Ash was under the impression he was in third the entire race but due to the course mis-cue was in fourth. Ash cruised to a 1:18:46 finish for 4th but would have pushed himself to third had he known his actual position. Despite the mishap Ash was pleased with the race overall and pleased with his fitness.
With the nice weather MRC encourages all runners out there to send us your race reviews and pictures and we’ll be more than happy to post your adventures from around the state!
